GEO-PICTURES is the Satellite & Space initiative that saves lives, environment and infrastructures during emergencies and disasters.

A powerful service portal, we create integrated space solutions, technology, infrastructure and procedures, that explore advantages of rapid & robust integration of visual in-situ & space observations.

Led by AnsuR in Norway, with users such as United Nations, EU Civil Protection and the Government of Amazonas, FP7 GEO-PICTURES is unique, and more than a technology project. GEO-PICTURES offers a new dimension in emergency management.

GEO-PICTURES provides state-of-art solutions to emergency responders and environmental monitoring initiatives using satellite technology and geographic information systems. Drawing on experiences and know-how from the GP partners, users are provided with tools for taking geo-tagged photos and transmitting, as well as managing, these over low bandwidths. Read more.... An iPhone app will soon be available. More advanced users can use digital cameras with built-in GPS and the GP ASIGN solutions to share and manage photos through the same integrated solutions that GP provides.

Examples of web-maps for real life operations supported by GP are available.

Using any Android/iOS phone, simply point the barcode-scanner to the QR code and the Asign application will install automatically. Volunteers as well as disaster managers and early responders can then use the application at no cost to acquire geo-tagged photos and see their own photos online, as well as share with own teams and other people. For major disasters, GEO-PICTURES will feed filtered photos from the crowd onto its integrated web-map application thus contributing to a common operational situation picture. Field collected photos and assessments are coupled with near real time satellite image delivery and analysis, as well as in-situ meteorological observations. The information is presented via web-maps and direct data feeds. GP also provides training and capacity development for maximum benefit of these technologies to EC Civil Protection, United Nations, Red Cross and Red Creacent Family, international organizations, NGOs and not least to disaster affected countries.
